Any chance we get to head up to the mountains to shoot is a chance we’ll take. If you’ve been on our journal before, you know the mountains of North Carolina are near and dear to us. It’s not just because it’s where we met or for the beauty and diversity of the scenery or the overall laidback vibe, but also the people that help make the mountains and the culture within them what they are.
Chloe + Gabe are the types of modern-day folks who help make these mountains special. Creative, adventurous, laidback, and insanely fun to be around. The mountains of North Carolina are perfect for them and they are perfect for the mountains. It’s a win-win situation with them.
Earlier this year, before the world got weird and we entered into a global pandemic, I got to spend an afternoon with these two at their home along with their equally creative and adventurous white cat named Goldie. We had planned on shooting mostly outside in some beautiful and awesome location, but it was frigid and had snowed a couple of days earlier, closing some areas down. Instead, we spent most of our time inside their beautiful home. It was perfect. Shooting a couple in their home always feels a little extra special. Letting people feel comfortable and at ease in the comfort of their own home opens up something that is hard to put into words at times, but you can see it in the images. I’d say, it’s always one of our favorite places to photograph a couple; home. It’s hard to create the type of intimacy and security anywhere else.
All the same, that pull you get when in the mountains, to get outside, still tugged on us. So, we hopped in the car and hit the Blue Ridge Parkway to go out and create some stuff at one of their favorite places. We fought the frigid temps and wind and what came of it, was pure magic.
